Levy helping to get people cycling
Its good to hear that the cycling industry is putting its hand in its pocket and trying to encourage people to take up cycling via the Bike Hub levy.
The Bike Hub levy scheme is a joint initiative of the Bicycle Association and the Association of Cycle Traders. Suppliers and bike shops pay 0.1% of sales on new bikes to help pay for cycling schemes to get people on bicycles.
In Scotland, the Bike Hub levy is helping fund a new fully integrated cycle training scheme for children. The scheme, which mirrors the Bikeability scheme in England, will train children to safely cycle on roads with three levels of progression from playground to on-road training. Bike Hub will contribute £30,000 per year to the scheme.
The Age Well on Wheels scheme, which offers a gentle reintroduction to cycling for Londoners aged 50 and above, is another example of a scheme that has received funding in part from the Bike Hub levy.
Bike Hub also makes £100,000 available per year to the New Ideas Fund. The fund helps cycle campaign groups, bicycle organisations, bike shops, and any others who have bright ideas to get more people cycling put their ideas into action.

Is the scheme voluntary? And how much does it collect annually?
The new ideas fund sounds like a good idea. How do groups access that fund?
