New trail build set for Kielder

Good news reaches us from Northumberland where the successful Kielder Trail mountain bike attraction in Kielder Water & Forest Park looks set to under go further development.
The Forestry Commission and Kielder Partnership have transformed the park into a top destination for mountain bikers from across the UK by developing a number of long distance trails offering differing forms of difficulty.
And now both the Forestry Commission and Kielder Partnership are looking to build a new 1.5 km trail at Capon Hassock on the popular Lonesome Pine route in the 62,000 hectare park. The new trail will replace a fire road with a purpose built section of trail.
The local mountain biking club Kielder Trail Reavers, who helped kick start the off road revolution in Kielder Water & Forest, is now looking for volunteers to help with the construction of the new trail, which is expected to take 18 months to complete.
Since being opened in 2005, the mountain bike training loop near Kielder Castle has attracted a stream of cycling visitors to the area as well as high profile events to Kielder Water & Forest Park giving a tourism boost to local businesses.
