This morning brings us welcome news that the London Barclays Cycle Hire Scheme is to be extended further east from the current boundary to cover the Olympic site in time for 2012.
At the moment, the scheme stretches to Whitechapel station, but Transport to London has confirmed that cycle docking stations will be built across Tower Hamlets, North Shoreditch, Bethnal Green, Bow, Canary Wharf, Mile End, Poplar and the Olympic Park.
The extension will see 2.700 new docking points and 2,000 new bikes added to cover the area. Its likely that the first new docking points will be operational within a year.
There have been rumours that the system will be available to non-members by the end of this year but there has been no official word yet from Transport for London
