Thursday Throwdown: Toyota Prius - green electric dream or silent cyclist stalker
ShareThis
Are Toyota Prius’ a silent cyclist stalker or a green electric dream? That was the subject of the debate on the Going Going Bike Thursday Throwdown yesterday.
This issue has reached the heights of the European Union and we felt it was time for the topic to be presented in open forum for cyclists to participate.
Contributors to the debate were, as always, vociferous in their opinions! Osian was firmly against Priuses. He said they were “dangerous to cyclists as they can’t hear it coming and also it’s not even that ‘green’, especially when not in the city.” A damning critique if ever there was one.
Andrew thought we were dealing with the wrong problem. He said “I think may be we should fit pedestrians with Star Wars sound effects as they are much more of a threat to cyclists leaping off pavements and through traffic than electric vehicles.”
However, Tyron said that he remembered driving an electric van in London and people continuously kept walking in front of it because it made no noise.
As ever, all sides of the debate were represented and we couldn’t help thinking that it’s just as well the EU are going to decide on these issues…I don’t think we will ever get agreement on our Throwdowns!
