Ghoulish Bike Tour in London
ShareThis
There were ghoulish goings on in Kensington and Chelsea, West London, last night as a group of cyclists undertook a Ghost Bike Tour of the borough, organised by our friends at Bikeminded.
Led by our grim faced and nervously twitching tour leader (who knows what might spring out of the dark on an evening so close to Halloween?) we were presented with the dark reality of murder, filth and intrigue in this most prestigious of boroughs.
The banks of the Thames, deserted garden squares and eery Mews were the setting for these chilling tales.
Aside from the ghoulish stories, the event was expertly led and marshalled by members of the local LCC and CTC. They made sure that the large group (the event was quickly sold out) negotiated the evening traffic without incident.
Night riding safety
They also delivered a safety briefing focused on night time riding. The useful three point message was: (i) take longer at junctions to make sure the route is clear, (ii) ask yourself whether your clothing is visible and (iii) make sure you have good lights on your bike.
There was no danger of anyone on the ride not being well lit up as we were all handed Bike Glows upon arrival. These are simple cables, to be wound around your bike’s frame, which light up (and can flash) to increase visibility from the side. A colourful addition for night time riding (available to buy on our marketplace at £19.99).
There was also plenty of hi-viz on display and a particularly demonic bicycle with pumpkin lantern and glowing ghouls suspended from the top-tube. That’s what I call getting into the spirit of things!
