Commonwealth Games cycling track already damaged

Anyone watching the recent Commonwealth Games in Delhi would have been pleased to see the progress of the Indian cycling track team. Though they did not end up with any medals, the host country showed promise with its young group of cyclists. So you’d think this all bodes well for the future with Indian cycling having a world class training facility to use in the Delhi Velodrome.
Well not exactly. Only a fortnight after the end of competition, contractors appointed by the Organising Committee of the Commonwealth Games to remove games signages apparently failed to appreciate the delicate nature of the timber surface and damaged the timber track at the velodrome in the Indira Gandhi Stadium in the process of dismantling.
Officials are hopeful of repairing the track. Who pays for it to be repaired is another matter.
