Traffic wardens on bicycle patrol

There is some sense of justice in this story. The bicycle helps in the fight against illegal car parking.
UK parking management company APCOA will be using recycled bicycle to monitor illegal car parking in Southend for the first time after both the local council and APCOA looked for a cheaper, greener alternative to moped or car use by traffic wardens.
Neil Hunwicks, APCOA’s contract manager, told the Southend Standard newspaper that the bikes were a good way to get its wardens out and about.
“They can get around a lot faster on bikes and it’s a greener way to travel than using a car, so everyone wins. We’re delighted.”
Recycled bikes
APCOA’s bikes, which have been specially adapted to hold a traffic wardens’ equipment, have come via Southend Council’s own ReCycle Centre.
The ReCycle centre services old or abandoned bikes and then offer the bikes to volunteer groups and the general public at a reduced price.
Bikeability
The wardens will receive Bikeabilty training to help them cycle safely while doing their jobs. APCOA runs 17 wardens in Southend and those wardens work up to 14 different areas during the day.
All in all, we think this is a great green solution to finding illegal car parkers’, especially those parked in cycle lanes!!
