Review: Cyclodelic waterproof Edwardian jacket, £250 [rating: 4.5/5]

When it comes to clothes, I have to admit to being a bit of a snob. I like my clothes to be sufficiently glamorous, of good quality, originally designed and preferably off high-street.

My “look” took a bit of a hit when I became a cyclist. Cycling clothing has (until very recently) been focussed predominantly on the male market unless one was happy wearing an XX-Small male cycling jersey in pink (which seemed to be the cycling clothing manufacturers’ response to women on bikes).

The good news is that things are changing! I recently got hold of the Edwardian Waterproof Ladies Jacket from Cyclodelic which I had clocked on Going Going Bike. It stood out from other cycling jackets I had seen because of its original design and because it was clear that it is made for woman’s shape.

I chose the red jacket because I like to be visible on the road but I really dislike the boring high-vis jackets. The Cyclodelic jacket has an original look. I particularly like the sleeves which are a bit longer, so, you can pull them over your gloves to keep you warm when on your bike. I also like the collar which is high and wide and protects your neck from the wind. It also provides sufficient bottom coverage, so, it is safe to wear low-waisted jeans whilst cycling.

The jacket is really warm and provides a great wind shell. It makes you feel like you are in a little cocoon. I have also had the “luck” of testing the jacket’s waterproof qualities during my 8 mile commute into work. I can only say that I wished Cyclodelic made a full body jumpsuit!

My only suggestion to Cyclodelic would be to add some “vents” to the jacket to make sure that it does not get too hot (although, I suspect, the vents can be forgotten for this winter as it is going to be very, very cold!).

Overall, the jacket is fantastic. It looks great on and off the bike, is amazingly warm and has is perfectly styled for me.

In my view, by far the best women’s cycling jacket available.

- Smart enough to wear on and off the bike.

- Under arm vents for spring cycling!

Outer: Medium weight hydrophillic PU coated peachskin polyester microfibre with teflon on the face. Soft, lightweight, breathable and quick drying.

Zips: Metal YKK Excella zip in a choice of gold or gun black.
