Hunt that bike

As anyone who has done a treasure/scavenger hunt in their life will testify they are extremely a fun thing to do. Therefore it is no surprise, a clever marketing person would come up with a campaign that introduces elements of a scavenger hunt to promote a brand.
In Australia, Virgin Mobile has a come up with a clever marketing campaign that involves consumers attempting to find 75 bicycles all over Australia using social media to engage with participants.
Each day for the next three weeks, Virgin Mobile will release a bike across locations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide with treasure or rather bicycle seekers having to follow location clues to find where the bike is hidden. The treasure hunt is part of Virgin Mobile’s “A Fair Ride For All’ campaign.
Social media integration
To receive the competition clues (and this is where the marketing kicks in), bike hunters must choose the bike they want to hunt for via Virgin Mobile’s competition microsite FairRide.com.au. The hunter must like the bike with the integrated Facebook Like button on the website, whereupon a series of location clues will then appear each day through their own Facebook news feed.
It is then up to them to get out and about and hunt it down. The first to locate the bike and unlock it using the combination code provided (via the Facebook feed) gets to ride it home (with a helmet provided of course as this is Australia!)
Bike lovers can also pick up tips from Twitter with daily hunt announcements and updates using the hashtag #FairRide to help followers track down a bike.
All sorts of bikes available
Bikes available include fixies, road racers, BMX, mountain bikes and a city/utility bikes. Prices of the bikes range from $600-$1500, so this is no cheap exercise and the bikes are well worth hunting for.
