The recently much maligned Brighton and Hove Council (in cycling terms of course) is considering introducing a cycle hire scheme.
The Brighton and Hove Argus newspaper reports that the Council are currently in talks with businesses and other stakeholders about introducing such a scheme. The Council is understood to have carried out an early feasibility study into what benefits the scheme would bring.
Aimed at tourists
According to the newspaper. the idea, which could be introduced in “months rather than years”, will initially be aimed at visitors in an attempt to make Brighton and Hove an even more attractive global tourist destination.
Recent criticism of Council
Brighton and Hove Council has come in for criticism in recent months for being anti-cycling after it mothballed several cycle lane schemes, while it also plans to tear up an existing cycle lane that had been installed at a cost of £500,000.
