Bikeability, the cycling proficiency training scheme for children, is to receive an extra £2m of funding in the next two financial years as the government seeks to get more children cycling. The move follows evidence collated for the Department of Transport that higher levels of Bikeability funding does result in increases in cycling to secondary school. READ ON

Sustrans and bicycle industry group The Bicycle Association (via Bike Hub) are running their The Big Pedal initiative again this year starting on March 5. The Big Pedal aims to get more children cycling by encouraging children to cycle to school. READ ON

Despite India’s relative economic strength and upcoming financial power much of the country’s basic infrastructure remains very much under developed. The country has always had a very large middle class but in some states illiteracy levels still remain high. This illiteracy rate is higher for women than it is for men in what is a male dominated society. READ ON
