City Cycle Style

ShareThis

The victorian grandeur of the Grand Avenue in London’s Smithfield Market provided a fitting backdrop on Friday evening for the City Cycle Show. The decorative cast iron arches looked down on Karta Healy’s show, which brought together cycling fashion, bicycles from all ages and a spirit of style over speed.

A runway, of sorts, was fashioned at one end of the Avenue where models were led around a circuit by a group of stunt cyclists. There was plenty of style behind the tricks up front. Capes were prominent, natty headwear and a significant amount of tweed. The bikes were also on show and, in addition to featuring bikes of the show’s sponsors, included some special ancient machines that might well have rolled through the market when it was first opened in 1860s.

Exhibitor’s (including Going Going Bike) set up shop within two red london buses (being a bikey event these were not bendy buses!) and it was nice to see Cycle Chic in the “ladies” bus, selling some of their excellent kit. We set up one of our “Bicycle Crime Scene” installations which, following the success at Sky Ride London, are becoming a bit of a constant theme for us.

This was the first City Cycle Show but, given the success of the event, and support from within the cycling community, I am sure we will see more in years to come.
